Before 18 years old, I was a labourer for few weeks and knew the value for money.

After 18 years old, I started to live away from home, began to integrate into society.
People see me as a good student, slightly crazy. After graduation, under cover of a traveller, crazy and daring solo trips, sometimes as an engineer, and now as a graduate student.
During hard periods I had to work 4 jobs at the same time for survival and keep my mind to plan for future, There are a lot of interesting stories.
But here I will not discuss those stories (about studying, full-time jobs or travelling). Here are some of the hidden views of my life that extra work I have done from 18 to 24 years old. There are jobs that nobody knows even the family, teachers, friends do not know.

1. Leafleter (First-year student, 2 days)

In the first semester in College, although I got some money from family, but I tried to challenge myself, that help me get the first point of view about the social, how is the student life.
=> Learn how to stand in the street, quick reaction of eyes and hands.

2. Waiter in canteen, (Part-time, 6 months)

This job, I want to get money to go to Gym club, so I worked for a Canteen in VNU-Dormitory. (clean the table, wash dishes by hand)
=> It was fulfilled my free time after lunch or dinner

3. Waiter in coffee shop (Part-time, 1 week)

I was a waiter in the A6 coffee shop, VNU-Dormitory. After doing in the canteen, I still have time to work until 23h p.m. The manager, she was a little crazy, sometimes she chewed out bullshitting thing.
=> This job does not learn much

4. Tutor (Part-time, 4 years)

After a period of manual work, it is a waste of time. I looked for a tutoring job, I teach Math, Physics, Chemistry for high school students. Basic knowledge in high school is not difficult, just read a book few minutes then explain for the student. Compared to the previous jobs, teaching gives me a higher salary ($8/2 hours/student). Therefore, I just taught 6 hours per week, that salary enough spent for living cost. The peak of lack of money so I toke 3 classes and full week schedule.
=> I learn a lot of things from this job, the ability to solve the money issues, read and explain quickly, review general knowledge, arrange ability, and working in high performance. Some of my students were better that make me happy.

5. Glass cleaning worker (1 week)

This is a ridiculous job, before Lunar Newyear 2012, I spent money to buy some stuff, then not enough money to return my hometown. I worked for a cleaning service company, clean the windows, clean the floor, clean the carpet. My managers saw that the students are easy to enforce so he gave me the heavy work which was not in our deal.
=> Although this job is boring, but I got a point of view about life seriously, bad and good people. The life out there is totally different with the familiar thing in college.

6. Tour guide (Free-lance, 1 year)

This job is fun, not stressful, no manual work, take guests go to visit our country. It also needs knowledge and skills, I am an amateur freelancer so I did not see the professional things in this job.
=> I got a lot of lessons from this job: Practice English, cultural and historical knowledge, presentation skills, satisfying my travel demand, good salary ($ 35- $ 45 / day).

7. Project free-lance

Sounds majestic, actually, I do some simple job. Some of my friends so busy and they asked me to help them solve/analysis some academic/technical problems. I had not free time, but I still took the job.
=> In several jobs, I was not good enough to finish it timely, that made my friends run into troubles. Now I am carefully in getting a job.

CONCLUSION

Before embarking on a new experience, at that time I had no deep thought that it was useful or not, … FREE + LACK OF MONEY so that I go to work.
In each stage, I learn, experience necessary new knowledge and skills, but can not use them completely (only partially). If you can make good use of these things in life, it’s great. When you get more experiences, you grow up, you are more mature, you know how to use resources more effectively.

FOR READERS

If you are not an excellent person who is strong enough on the chosen path, so you should leave your safe zone, explore the things out there, then experience, more point of views. I am not sure you will be successful or not, but you will definitely grow up.
